Another title done!

Its finally done! I just finished up on FIFA 13 this year, working on a ton of character kits (Uniforms), for Next Gen consoles (XBox and Playstation) as well as the Current Gen machines (Wii, PSP, etc). Was always fun to work with the team I have every year but I think this will be my last year on FIFA. Time to move on to other things!

Yup...I've been busy at Day job and sucking at Night Job

So Ive been busy at EA during the day and by the time I get home after work and the gym I'm too tired to work on anything. But I have forced myself to do something creative for at least one hour a night within the last few weeks. It could be sculpting or drawing/doodling as long as I use my brain and make art.

Soooo I went back into Moloch and did some re tuning under the observations of Damien. He suggested for me to really push the human anatomy in the face so I took his direction and still going with it. As you know I put Moloch down for a bit due to my personal tragedy and then I tried to get back on track with my life and I started work on him again then I got hit again. Smoked by another unforeseen situation that forced me to move...again. My personal life really has sucked for the last 7 months and I'm still trying to get back up to speed with personal work and my personal life.  So here is some new WIPS of Moloch, yes I'm still not done...I'm pretty close to finishing up this sculpt. Mostly detail work and my personal favourite...wrinkles! I Love sculpting wrinkles!

Here is something else I was working on. I have been doing some more 2D work other than this but I thought Id share this WIP even in its roughest form. Its a pin up Ive been wanting to do for such a long time but never really got around to it. I was to busy with the model/subject of the piece :P She was my muse, my best friend and my partner in crime, but unfortunately she is none of those now.  But she will always be my Pudu :)
I think after I do up Moloch and Texture him, I'm going to focus on this Pin up piece and my Derpy painting and rock out the 2D for a bit. I really want to finish some paintings as I got soooo many WIPs and I really need to get my ass in gear and finish them :P

I suck...for not Posting more often!

Yeah so after my last post I went MIA again. I picked up a short contract at my very first 3D company I worked for, Nerdcorps Entertainment Inc. I have been working there as a modeler for the last month on a show called slugteraniea. Its Currently in production but has been announced so I can mention it here
You probably wont see it till about next year I believe.
I just finished up a vehical model on the show which got me inspired to dabble on my Tiger some more. I took a break from it to work on Moloch....which I went back on and re did some of the face. So its still not done :P But then again this weekend is the first in a month that Ive actually worked on anything.  So here is some shots of my updated kitty.

So As you can see I added the tracks!!! They have been placed on the turret and to the base. Right now they are un smoothed and super heavy on the geo. I must think of the best way to minimise the load these things carry at render time. When smoothed they chug my system down and it is not fun to render. Either I minimise the geo or render them separately(Right now all the detail is modeled in). Not sure yet...but Ill be going back to Moloch this upcoming weekend and Kitty will go back in the WIP box for now. I really really want to get Moloch done! I cant wait to start texturing him :P

I'll be back soon

I'm sure it has been noticed that I haven't posted anything since Nov. 7th. and I'm sorry to be MIA for so long.
But for the last 2 months Ive been coping with some personal tragedy that I experienced after my last post. It really knocked me off my feet and took me to a very sad, dark and lonely place. My life got shaken up and I had to roll with all the punches. I also had to pick up what was left of myself as well as my earthly belongings and move to a new location. My world got turned upside down in an instant and I didn't even see it coming. What I experienced, I never really went through before and I didn't handle it well. It changed me and I really didn't do too much for the last 2 months but unravel and discover somethings about my self and how a person can fall apart and have their life change in an instant.

Life is strange and when you least expect it, it tosses in a curve ball and makes you shift into a unpredicted or unplanned path that maybe inconceivable to you at the time.

That all being said, I put all things in my life on hold and tried to get my shit together, which I'm still working on. But it is only been until recently that I started engaging in creating art again.
I avoided using my work as an escape from my ordeal as I didn't want to taint the joy of creating art. I've tried this in the past and it affected my work in a negative way and chose not to do it again.
But now that I am slowly getting settled into my new life Ive started sculpting again, and by the end of the week you should see the final result of Moloch.

Till then, stay tuned.

MIA in HI

Its been awhile since Ive posted! I took of to Hawaii for a week in the beginning of October and when I came back, some changes needed to be made.
A friend of mine, Damien (who is an amazing sculptor and friend) wanted to see where I was at with Moloch.  So I asked him to take a look and get some feed back. Damien knows his craft inside and out, so what ever he says I take it 100% seriously. And what he told me was to make Moloch less fictional and more factual, by this he meant give it more human features and structural anatomy. And really push my shapes and medium masses.

So after a few variations and revisions, this is where I am with him. And I must say I am more than happy with the way he is turning out so far. I put in a lot of time and effort into studying proper facial anatomy and human head reference. I must say Thank you Damien for pointing me in the right direction! And looking at the Moloch post(s) prior to this...wow he sure looked like shit! Thats what you get when you are trying to make stuff (anatomy) up without reference (I was focusing on what a mish mash of ape creature and human would look like). Big FAIL!

But there is still lots to do so stay tuned!

Wrinkles are just knowledge lines!

Minor update. Started defining and puffing up his facial wrinkles as well as giving some minor surface detail to the skin. This has helped to break up the surface and give me a visual means to find natural looking wrinkle lines.

I just started retopology in Topogun so i can start bringing in more detail in the horns and shoulder areas.

I think once I retopo this guy, ill be giving him the same wrinkle treatment as Moloch. No I haven't updated this guy as Moloch has been a fun one to plug away at it. But his scrotification will be happening soon enough!

Hello ladies! Do you like my muscles??

So I ended my contract at EA Canada this past Friday, and today (Monday) I started up again on this guy since my last post. As you know this started off on my lunch hour and I decided to keep plugging away at it. But in the past week I wasn't able to work on his handsomeness, Lord Moloch of the Banana hammocks, due work and wrapping up the game.

But tonight I managed to squeeze some time in, before bed. So here is a little update!

Whats new? Well the base muscle forms were re-cut and I started to layout the wrinkles in the face. Ive been looking at the works of Kenichi Nishida and I really love the way he approaches the fleshy face wrinkles on his characters. So Ive been delicately cutting in roughly where i want some prominent wrinkles to go. That's about it! Oh and i gave him a slight lip curl on his left side....meeeoooow!
